Sakshi (Regd. 1992) is a capacity building organisation that pioneered work against Sexual Harassment and Child Sexual Abuse in India.

Sakshi is a capacity building organization, (regd. NGO, 1992) with Equality as our founding principle. We strive to make equality a reality for vulnerable groups by empowering youth, women, children, and marginalized groups, with a focus on diversity & inclusiveness, gender & sexual rights, water, sanitation & hygiene, peaceful coexistence and leadership.

    Founded by Naina Kapur & Jasjit Purewal.


    Pioneered work in Gender Equality, Gender-Based Violence, Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Child Sexual Abuse in India.

  • 1995-2000


    Filed the landmark PIL Sakshi Vs. Union of India.


    Force behind the Vishaka Guidelines 1997 which informed POSH 2013.


    Informed the 172nd Law Reform.

  • 2000-2010


    Provided the bedrock for the Sexual Assault Bill 2010.


    Conducted Judicial Education for the Judiciary of 5 nations : The Asia Pacific Advisory Forum on Gender Equality.

  • 2010-2020


    Wrote guidelines for POSH 2013 for Ministry of Women & Child Development.


    Launched Senses & Soul a program and handbook on Responsible Sexuality.


    Launched SBOX : an agency for Communication for Development.


    Launched The Rakshin Project to empower 4 million youth to prevent Child Sexual Abuse.
